Sunday Terminology: Determinism

Determinism: The belief that man’s actions are the result of antecedent causes has been formulated naturalistically and theistically. The naturalistic view sees human beings as part of the machinery of the universe. In such a world every event is caused by preceding events, which in turn were caused by still earlier events, ad infinitum. Since man is part of this causal chain, his actions are also determined by antecedent causes. Some of these causes are the environment and man’s genetic make-up. These are so determinative of what man does that no one could rightly say that a given human action could have been performed otherwise than it in fact was performed. Thus, according to determinism, Bob’s sitting on the brown chair rather than the blue sofa is not a free choice but is fully determined by previous factors. [1]

  1. Goes to show you right there how far entrenched the lie of human free will is in evangelical circles and their outlook on languages. Their own definition of determinism is exactly in line with secular philisophy’s false determinism –so that– it will be in line with secular philosophy’s definition of language. Both false definitions are then used to supposed prove the free will of man and thus a ‘gospel offer’.

The true determinism of God is founded on new creation and God being His Word and those acts of creation performed by God as Word Speaking. The hard determinism your definition portrays is a farce and yet is the basis for accusations against God’s predestination and election and in support of an idealization of all language as one large meta that God, men and Lucifer must use equally and as a amoral, will-neutral means of communicating a ‘offer’ of salvation.

look at the definition you gave ( which they made up and printed in a book ).. the determining factors of that lie of what determinism is have no on-going new creation such that we grow both physically and spiritually as God Speaks and directs, but rely instead on an implicit lack of new creation, lack of God’s control at all times and lack of anything that gets in the way of an idealized all-powerful past made of many parts with no new creation in the present. I completely understand they may have intended to honor God’s complete authority and control. Yet they have defined God out of the way and just called a caricature God=their determinism.

Jeremiah 9: 6 Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
