Sunday Terminology: Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism: The ethical theory according to which the rightness of actions is determined by the net balance of benefits produced. The principle of utility is seen by utilitarians as the sole moral criterion by which to judge actions, this principle being that we should always produce the greatest possible balance of good over evil. The rightness of action is a function of the consequences, “the greatest good for the greatest number.”[1]
